Girl Attacked by Dog

strathclyde police

A 17 year old girl was attacked by a dog in Cleland on 26th January 2012.

The incident took place around 6.20pm on 26th January outside Synergy Hair & Beauty on Cleland's Main Street. The girl was walking past the takeaway on Main Street when she noticed a lady walking towards her with a small white and brown Staffie dog. The dog was not on a leash. At this point the dog began barking at the girl, who was naturally frightened. She stood still and noticed that the dog's owner did not even look to see what her dog was barking at. At this point the dog then jumped up at the girl, bit her on the left arm and scratched her on her stomach.

The girl then boarded a bus and removed her jacket to examine her wounds. It transpired that she had sustained a cut above her left forearm and scratches on her stomach. She attended at Wishaw General Hospital where she was prescribed a 7 day course of antibiotics. Upon returning home she contacted the police, who are carying out enquiries.

If you have any information on the dog owner please contact Wishaw Police Station or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
